“Penonomé” is both the name of this naturally processed coffee lot and the name of the Panamanian region where Kiva Estate cultivates Canephora of the BRS2314 variety. Panama is most often associated with highland Arabicas — yet remarkable coffees with extraordinary flavor profiles are now also emerging from the lowlands.

The pioneers of Kiva Estate have set out to realize their vision of exceptional Canephora coffee in Penonomé. On this journey, they must master not only the coffee’s flavor profile but also its careful selection — an area that still presents structural challenges. We, however, see these coffees as rough diamonds and are eager to accompany our partners at Kiva along the way.

Penonomé deserves its place in the world of specialty coffee — as a symbol of Panama and of the diversity and quality that Canephora can offer.
