Café L’Etranger, as a brand of the Samayoa family, represents the heritage of their great-grandfather, who began coffee cultivation as a Belgian immigrant and whose legacy has been passed down since 1913 within the family. Today, Liza and Ernesto run the farms together with their son Rodrigo. Family is at the center and serves as the foundation for everything else – friendship, closeness to the product and the customer, tireless work on quality, and supporting the community. This sense of self-understanding characterizes the family and is reflected in every step of the coffee production process.
The farms are located in the Tecapa-Chinameca region, where the surrounding volcanoes shape the landscape and microclimate, making it perfect for coffee cultivation.
Liza has named this coffee Colibrí. As a colibrí is a brightly shimmering bird, always in motion and with a very important role in the flora, the coffee of this name is the sparkling example of teamwork between farmers. Ernesto Samayoa and his family play an important role here as they support other producers with their coffee expertise and encourage better processes. The blend from Pacas of Finca La Vega (Café L’Etranger) and, to a lesser extent, neighboring farms is processed in their own honey processing facility.
The neighbors are already supported in advance, for example through training to improve harvest quality (only fully ripe cherries). Then, the selected lots are further processed directly at Café L’Etranger’s processing facility and marketed together with their own coffee, which leads to better prices than the often-common practice of selling harvested cherries unsorted to middlemen.
