The zone around Villa Rica in the central Peruvian rainforest is unique – since 1980, Canephora has been produced in hidden spots, often ending up sold as Arabica through opaque value chains, especially during the armed conflict and times of terrorism. Some producers, however, have focused on high-quality Canephora production from the beginning. Ángel Buleje is one example: his natural nano lot brings a lot of juiciness and clarity to the cup.
