Uncommon Coffee Blend: Courage Across Origins

The Connection
This coffee connects Petit Kwilu Canephora from the Mayombe, Western D.R. Congo, with Arabica from Moyobamba, Peru.
The connection is historical and human.
Both regions are linked to Roger Casement, an Irish independence activist and a central figure in uncovering colonial crimes against humanity in D.R. Congo and Peru.
The Story
In D.R. Congo, Roger Casement documented the atrocities under Leopold II as a diplomat, increasing the pressure in Europe and contributing to the end of the Congo Free State.
Afterwards, he travelled to Peru, where he documented crimes in the Amazon rubber industry.
This coffee connects two places where injustice was exposed because someone chose to look, document and speak.
What these coffee components have in common: people and places that were violated, but seen, and finally freed from suffering because of the bravery and moral compass of one single person.
The Cup
- The #00002 Kuntu Organic Arabica from Moyobamba, Peru brings sweetness, fruitiness and balance, with notes of chocolate, gingerbread, sweet fruits and forest berries. It gives the blend a smooth Arabica base with a warm, sweet and fruity profile.
- The #00202 Cayombe Lukula Petit Kwilu from D.R. Congo brings depth, body and intensity, with notes of cocoa, black tea, dark chocolate, dried fruit and liquorice. It adds the Congolese Canephora character and a darker, more structured layer.
Together, they create a smooth and layered omniroast expression:
Ratio suggestion: 8g Kuntu Organic + 4g Cayombe Lukula
Approx. order structure: 2 bags Kuntu Organic + 1 bag Cayombe Lukula
Tested as: Omniroast
In the cup, the blend shows forest berries, dark chocolate, hazelnut, brown spice, cocoa and gingerbread. It has a very smooth mouthfeel, with a hint of coriander seed and a hazelnut cream aftertaste. Both blends are very well suited for Espresso or other preparation methods.
The Impact
This coffee embodies decolonial awareness and connects consumers with two places where courage once helped expose injustice and bring violent systems to an end.
What makes this coffee uncommon: it shows that change is possible, even when everything seems hopeless.
This blend matters because it turns a painful historical connection into a narrative of memory, awareness and transformation.
